Vignettes for Slovakia
The Slovak Republic introduced the e-vignette system and replaced the vignettes in sticker form in 2015. Since that time, drivers no longer need to buy a vignette at petrol stations or other selling points.
The e-vignette can be purchased online at any time. The purchasing process should take only a couple of minutes, and the vignette confirmation will be automatically delivered to the buyer’s email address once the payment is registered.
There are four types of e-vignette available in the Slovak Republic – a 10-day, 30-day, 365-day, and annual vignette.
After finalizing your e-vignette purchase, your vehicle’s details will be immediately sent to the Slovak toll system. The camera system located within the Slovak roads compares the license plates with their database and verifies whether a vehicle using the Slovak expressways and highways has a valid vignette or not.
The e-vignette system has totally eliminated the need to stop at the petrol station and wait in a long line to get a sticker vignette which then would have to be glued to the windscreen of your vehicle. Instead, all you need to do is to buy a digital vignette and go straight to the Slovak roads!

Penalties
The Slovak Republic introduced the monitoring system placed along the road, checking the vehicles’ license plates. The plate numbers are compared with the information stored in the e-vignette system’s database, and this way, it is possible to verify whether a vehicle has a valid vignette.
The car using the Slovak toll roads without an active vignette can be halted by the highway police and is subject to a 150 Euro fine. Even though you may not be stopped by the police, the ticket for not having a valid vignette may also be delivered to you by mail.
Please note that the e-vignette price includes highway patrol assistance, which can help you in case of fuel shortage, vehicle crashes, and many other emergency situations that may occur when on the road.
